The Hanmadang encompases several non-combat aspects of Taekwondo; in a sense, it's the Olympics for the martial art stream of Taekwondo. Events include poomsae (patterns), hoshinsool (self-defense), and kyukpa (breaking).

This is the first Hanmadang in 17 years to be held outside of Korea, a decision intended to make the event more accessible to American competitors according to the hosting United States Taekwondo Federation (USTF).

It was a great experience to be able to participate in a World class event representing the USA (Wynn University School of Taekwondo).  In my Taekwondo career I have participated in many tournaments which I have medal in gold and silver in forms and sparring.  But for some reason when I won this gold medal it was a different sense of accomplishment.  It hit me when they announced that we were the 2008 Hanmadang gold medal winners.  This meant that I hold a world title and it’s an accomplishment I am very proud of.  It was an exciting experience to compete with people from all over the world who all one thing in common, the love and lifestyle of Martial Arts.
